The article reports that a new legislation has been introduced in the General Assembly of South Carolina, and is called the "2005 Trust Fund for Maintenance of South Carolina Roads and Highways." The legislation is expected to pave the way for millions of dollars currently directed to the General Fund to be used to repair deteriorating highway infrastructure--without raising taxes for the residents of South Carolina. The state's Department of Transportation is continuously recognized as one of the most efficient highway departments in the country. However, its hands are virtually tied by lack of funds. |
