The article presents observations on the depiction of American expatriate women in Paris, France in the television series "Emily in Paris," which received backlash among the French for portraying them as nasty, haughty and lazy while projecting Paris as an urban fantasy-land. It shows criticisms over the show's obliviousness about climate change and the scarcity of resources, its failure to demonstrate the realities of French life, and the treatment of Paris as a two-dimensional cartoon. |
