Abstrakt: The article reports that the U.S. House Majority Whip Roy Blunt indicated today that House tax cut proposals this year may put a priority on making permanent the 15 percent top rate on dividends and capital gains and tackling the estate tax, ahead of trying to extend or make permanent marginal income tax rates and preferences such as the increased child tax credit. The capital gains and dividend tax cuts are scheduled to expire in 2008, while the estate tax will be fully repealed for one year in 2010, before reverting to 60 percent for inheritances above $1 million. While timing for a House tax bill is still unclear, Representative Rob Portman, Republican-Ohio, said on Thursday that it would likely follow on the heels of a budget resolution vote, to give the House and Senate a chance to move tax cuts through the reconciliation process.
