The article reports that according to public and private sector officials from the city of Tucson, Arizona, if downtown redevelopment is to take place, private sector support will be a defining indicator as well as city and county collaboration. During a "downtown redevelopment summit" hosted September 3, 2004 by Friends of Downtown, officials from the city of Tucson, Pima County, University of Arizona and Tucson businesses met at the Stillwell House to discuss the vision for downtown and need for collaboration. A plan for downtown redevelopment, better known as Rio Nuevo, was approved by voters in 1999. INSET: RECENT RIO NUEVO: DEVELOPMENTS. |
