Two hundred security guards were powerless to stop screaming and weeping girls who ripped down a fence 20ft from the stage to reach their idol at the White City Stadium. MAY 27, 1975 STUNTMAN Evel Knievel was badly hurt last night when he crashed after leaping over 13 London buses on his motorbike. Around 75,000 people saw him flung from the bike as he landed badly at the end of the 100mph jump at Wembley Stadium. The 35-year-old daredevil was put on a stretcher — but he got off and limped to a microphone to announce his 'retirement'. HAPPY BIRTHDAY SIOUXSIE SIOUX, 64. The frontwoman of Siouxsie And The Banshees was born Susan Janet Ballion in Chislehurst, South-East London. The 'queen of goth' and 'punk iconoclast' has been described as being 'every bit as mysterious and unyielding as the most difficult male of the rock species'. She says the 'i's in her name are silent: 'You don't pronounce the "t" in Bardot, do you?' [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER] |
