Not least in… Le Havre: a big celebration Often dismissed as just a ferry port, the Normandy city of Le Havre reaches a significant birthday this year — its 500th (having been founded in 1517). A summer of festivities, art and concerts (uneteauhavre2017.fr) will start on 27 May, with the highlight likely to be a parade of enormous mechanical marionettes, created by the left-field French street theatre group Royal de Luxe, which will take over the centre on the weekend of 7-9 July.
