The aim of this study was to investigate the influence of synthesized dithiocarbamate on nine American Type Culture Collection (ATCC) bacteria which is commonly present in hospitals. The infectious diseases caused by no-socomial bacteria are currently a serious problem. Due to limited actions of many disinfectants, effective products are desirable to treat these bacteria. In our study in vitro antibacterial activity of potassium-3-dithiocarboxy-3-aza- 5-aminopentanoate (K-daap) was determined by the agar disk diffusion method. K-daap was obtained according to procedure. Gentamicin disc was used as a control antibiotic. At the same time, nine ATCC bacteria were used. The plates were incubated at 36°C±l for 24 hours. The diameters of the inhibition zones were measured in millimeters and their mean values were calculated. The tests were repeated 3 times to confirm the findings. The results showed that the K-daap substance provided very high activity to bacteria. The results of the study are encouraging because the K-daap showed strong antimicrobial activity against ATCC strains especially for Enterococcusfaecalis ATCC 49532, Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 6538, Proteus hauseri ATCC 13315 and Salmonella Enteritidis ATCC 13076.
