Abstrakt: The article offers information on the history and research related to Lyme disease. In the mid-1970s, when children were diagnosed with a rare disease, National Institutes of Health researcher Willy Burgdorfer identified Borrelia burgdorferi (Bb), which was first isolated from the gut of ticks collected in woodlands on Shelter Island, New York. Richard Ostfeld, a disease ecologist, suggests that fragmentation of forest habitat plays a key role in the spread of Lyme disease.
