Abstrakt: The article presents a study on the exposure and impact of oilfield brine discharges on western sandpipers (Calidris mauri) in Nueces Bay, Texas. The study used radio-enzymatic determination of total hydroxylation products to measure arylhydrocarbon hydroxylase (AHH) activity and Fmas test to test the contaminant burdens of monooxygenases. Results showed that contaminant burdens and decreased liver weight of sandpipers may lead to chronic exposure to petroleum hydrocarbons.
