Abstrakt: Chapter 2 of the book "Reviews of Environmental Contamination and Toxicology," edited by David M. Whitacre is presented. It investigates the association of diacetyl into popcorn lung disease known as bronchiolitis obliterans in factory workers through electron transfer (ET). The disease is caused by exposure to substance which affects the lungs' epithelial barrier function. It finds that the diacetyl interrupts ET process, induces reactive oxygen species (ROS) and takes part on cell signaling.
