The article reports on the Decision-Support Tool, a methodology for assessing and prioritizing impaired waters or sources of fecal indicators bacteria in a given area and evaluating the relative health risks. The methodology is composed of three steps that provide a framework for identifying, interpreting and responding to elevated levels of fecal coliforms and other indicators observed in ambient monitoring efforts. The tool is applied by the state of Florida to help improve water quality. |
