This article discusses how carbon emissions can be reduced through innovative landscaping ideas and techniques. Environmental landscape designer Doug Kent says that although gardens pull carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, the energy used to prepare gardens adds more carbon emissions than are removed. Kent discusses ways to make gardens carbon-neutral or even as carbon sinks. He uses mostly native plants that require little water and no chemicals or pesticides. Kent's gardens also contain no lawn areas because of the carbon emissions produced from their maintenance. |
