The article discusses the impact of hydropower on rural communities. Hydropower is considered the largest contributor of electricity from renewable energy sources. Peter Crossley of the Joule Centre stated in a conference that low-head hydropower has the potential to make microgeneration at community level. However, the plan to use hydropower is challenged by the need to have the support of key stakeholder groups such as political representatives and the community members themselves. The Joule Centre is said to be conducting research projects and encouraging potential investors or companies interested in getting involved with their plans. |
