Abstrakt: The article reports on the benefits of carbon offset programs. It states that the reduction of anthropogenic greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions is the greatest environmental challenge facing society over the coming decades and is the second contributor to the increasing GHG concentrations in the atmosphere. The largest global source of emissions though, is from the use of fossil fuels and land use. According to the author, current policies in the U.S. are limited to voluntary emission reductions and agriculture has played a minor role in the formal mitigation efforts.
