The article examines the possible consequences of the use of smart energy meters in Great Britain. Faye Scott of the Green Alliance explained that when homes with solid walls and options such as cavity-wall insulation are not possible, intelligent heating controls can provide the house heat in the most energy-efficient way. Smart energy meters can record and inform consumers about how much energy they are using and allow them to reduce their consumption. These meters are also capable of monitoring the export of electricity to the grid from homes generating their own energy on site. Phil Peer, business development manager of Siemens Building Controls, noted that intelligent heating controls can save up up to 50% of energy if used to control the heating, cooling, and lighting. |
