Abstrakt: The article discusses the issues concerning land ownership and tenure in Nigeria. It is outlined that the acute shortage of housing manifests itself in the emergence of physical slums and squatter settlements both in inner and peripheral areas of rapidly expanding cities of the country. With this, its Federal Government accepts it as part of its social responsibility to participate actively in the provision of housing for all income groups and will therefore intervene on a large scale in this sector during the plan period. Their aim is to achieve a significant increase in supply and bring relief especially to the low income group who are the most affected by the current acute shortage.
