Abstrakt: The article examines the development of plot ratio controls in London, England and its implications in Glasgow, Scotland. It states that its principle is based on an attempt to establish a ratio of floorspace inside a building to the available space outside and its concept was created after the Second World War. It discusses the significant effects in the redevelopment of buildings in Glasgow as local authorities put restriction in the actual standards used on a plot ratio. It concludes that the effectiveness of plot ratio policies depends mostly on the planners.
