Abstrakt: The article discusses the use of sheets of polyethylene plastic as passive monitors for environmental contaminants. An environmental research team led by Rachel G. Adams of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology examined the partitioning coefficients and equilibrium absorption times of polyethylene sheets to develop a quantitative method of measurement. While the simplicity of the approach is irresistible, the team warns that use of the sheets are not appropriate for every situation, with substances with very low detection limits preferable.
