Abstrakt: The article reports on the research conducted by Richard L. Phipps and Clark P. Baker of the U.S. Geological Survey on the significance of measuring soil moisture, rainfall, temperature and microchanges in different habitats in Arlington, Virginia. Researchers discovered that data gathering problem on habitats including hilltop and stream valley can be solved by using an automated system that records data on punched paper tape wherein it will then be transcribed to magnetic tape for high speed computer use. Such kind of technique is commonly employed in ecological and agricultural field studies.
