The article describes the trip of Inayat Ali, field manager for community conservation of the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS), to the Wakhan Corridor of Afghanistan. The author narrates that it took Ali several days to reach the area from Kabul because he was slowed down by perilous roads and fording rivers. Ali's destination is a narrow strip of land called Shangri-La that winds between two walls of craggy mountains where 42 Wakhi villages are located. One of his goals is to educate the Wakhi about conservation and ecotourism through the use of informative videos. |
