Abstrakt: The article presents information on the report titled "World Population: Myths and Realities," by the House Select Committee on Population. James Scheuer, committee chairman, sent the report to the U.S. Congress on November 9, 1978. Scheuer predicted that, by the year 2000, world population will probably increase by 50%. The report leans toward pessimism, calling growing world population "a major obstacle to human development and improved quality of life. The report shows that the population growth of the U.S. is not quite as dramatic as that of developing nations of the world. The committee also recommends that Congress reevaluate U.S. immigration laws in light of the enormous population increases now attributable to immigration.
