Abstrakt: This article discusses how the drying of soil may increase the hydrophobicity of soil and affect the mobilization of organic carbon and colloid-associated heavy metals after re-wetting. According to the authors, air drying of soil samples from a former sewage farm, a municipal park, and a shooting range site increased hydrophobicity of the solid phase but did not affect the hydrophobicity of the dispersed colloids. They concluded that drying-induced colloid mobilization is not caused by a change in the physicochemical properties of the colloids.
