Abstrakt: The article reports on the speculation of foresters that mountain pine beetles in Alberta, Canada can sustain outbreak populations. Before, scientist believed these beetles could only survive in ponderosa and lodgepole pines but recently have been found in jack pine. In a study conducted by Jesse A. Logan of the U.S. Forest Service Rocky Mountain Research Station, it indicates that range of the beetle could potentially extend south through pine forests all the way to loblolly pine communities in the southern region of the U.S.
