Abstrakt: The article presents a study of salt loading in La Violada Gully from the total dissolved solids (TDS) and flows for which an end-member mixing analysis (EMMA) was performed to quantify the drainage flow from La Violada Irrigation District (VID) since flows came from various sources. Three components were identified in the gully which include the drainage waters from the VID, tail waters from irrigation ditches, spill-over, and seepage from the Monegros Canal, and ground water inflows originating in the dryland watershed. The results show that gypsum in the soils of VID was the main source for salts in the gully. Efficient irrigation systems and irrigation management practices are suggested to control off-site salt pollution of the gypsum-rich irrigated areas.
