The article examines the use of fuel cells on ships to reduce air pollution. Los Angeles announced a mandate in September 2005 to cut air pollution from its harbor. S. David Freeman, head of the city's harbor commission, gave a directive to the port managers to start finding ways to reduced air pollution. Rules, adopted by the California Air Resources Board, will require ships within 24 miles of the sttate's coast to reduce diesel emissions. The port of Los Angeles occupies 7,500 acres and 43 miles of waterfront. |
