The article talks about the application of agricultural technologies from the Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA) in food production in Antarctica. The CEA-based hydroponic crop production with a food growth chamber is an appropriate alternative in edible food production. The new South Pole Food Growth Chamber, which was designed and constructed by the University of Arizona's CEA Program in collaboration with Sadler Machine Co. in Tempe, Arizona under the direction of the National Science Foundation, which managed the U.S. Antarctic Program, is operated by a volunteer staff of interested station personnel. |
