Abstrakt: The article discusses a study which investigated mechanisms underlying acute cognitive impairment following inhalational exposure to carbon dioxide. Topics discussed include the link between acute carbon dioxide inhalation and activation of blood polymorphonuclear neutrophils (PMNs), the assessment of PMN activation by measuring cognitive function and oxidative metabolism markers, and the loss of mitochondrial respiratory capacity.
