CompuCycle, an IT asset management firm based in Houston, uses shredding equipment from SSI Shredding Systems to recycle 40,000 to 60,000 pounds of electronic scrap per day. By operating their own recycling plants, CompuCycle is able to recover metals and plastics in-house without relying on downstream processors. The company invested in SSI shredders in 2019 and has experienced no setbacks since their installation. CompuCycle also opened a plastics recycling plant next to their electronics facility, using an SSI Uni-Shear SR500 shredder to process bulky material. They separate plastics by density into single polymers, such as polypropylene and polyethylene, to support OEM sustainability goals and minimize reliance on finite resources.
