Abstrakt: Mayhaw fruit, known for its natural pectin, is ideal for making jams and jellies. Mayhaw plants are primarily found in the southern United States, particularly in wet areas like wetlands and swamps. They can grow up to 30 feet in height and produce edible fruit. To grow mayhaws, it is recommended to plant multiple trees for cross-pollination and optimal harvest. The fruit is ready for harvest when it turns bright red and a few fruits have fallen from the trees. Mayhaws require light maintenance and can be grown in Zones 6a to 11b. The Farm at Okefenokee, a rural agriculture community in Georgia, offers expert advice on growing mayhaws. They harvested 160 gallons of mayhaw fruit in 2022. Mayhaw jelly can be made using a simple recipe that involves boiling the fruit, straining the juice, adding sugar, and canning the mixture. [Extracted from the article]
