Abstrakt: This article discusses a study conducted in Southern Odisha, India, to determine the optimal planting dates and varieties of pole type French beans. The study evaluated four planting dates and five French bean varieties. The results showed that planting on October 17th yielded the highest plant height, number of green pods per cluster, and green pod yield per hectare. The varieties Ayoka-427 and Raikia Bean performed well in terms of growth, flowering, and yield. The study suggests that these varieties can be recommended to farmers for cultivation in October in Southern Odisha. The article also discusses the effects of planting dates and varieties on flowering traits, yield, and yield attributing traits in French beans. The study found that early flowering and early maturing varieties are preferable for off-season cultivation as they fetch higher market prices. Planting in October resulted in higher green pod yield compared to September planting. Varieties also showed differences in various traits such as days to first harvest, average green pod weight, and green pod yield. The variety Ayoka-427 performed the best in terms of green pod yield. The study concluded that planting dates and improved varieties can significantly increase productivity, with the best results observed in the second fortnight of October planting with Ayoka-427 and Raikia Bean in the Southern part of Odisha.
