Abstrakt: This article discusses the conservation efforts for Madhuca diplostemon, a critically endangered tree endemic to the Western Ghats of India. The species was rediscovered after 184 years and is currently known to exist as a single mature individual and a few saplings within a sacred grove. Due to the lack of ex situ conservation collections, a restoration program was initiated by the Jawaharlal Nehru Tropical Botanic Garden and Research Institute in collaboration with the Kerala Forest Department. The article highlights the threats faced by the mature tree and the successful raising of seedlings from fallen fruits. The researchers are currently developing seed propagation techniques to safeguard the species. [Extracted from the article]
