Abstrakt: The article discusses research which investigated Sargassum blooms in the Caribbean Sea and Atlantic Ocean, called the Great Atlantic Sagassum Belt (GASB), that affect communities. Researchers theorize the causes of GASB including shifting wind patterns, warming seas, changing ocean currents, fertilizing effects of iron in airborne dust and high nutrient levels. They examined health effects of Sargassum exposure including flesh-eating bacterial infection, keratoconjunctivitis and preeclampsia.
