Focuses on the desire of developers to build on Panama's Isla de Coiba, which was designated a national park in 1991 by the Republic of Panama. Argument by proponents of development that building tourism facilities on the island will help the Panamanian economy and help gain the resources needed to manage the park; Study undertaken by a team of scientists to develope a framework that can be used to apply a range of scenarios involving development and conservation in the region, and assess the economic and ecological impacts of alternate futures. |
