To clarify the degree and source of heavy metal pollution in the lake area is the premise of heavy metal pollution control. Nansi Lake is an important water transfer hub in the east route of the South-toNorth Water transfer project, and its water quality is closely related to the success or failure of water transfer. Therefore, data on heavy metals in 285 surface sediments from Nansi Lake and its tributaries were collected in this study. Eight heavy metal elements Cu, Zn, Cr, Pb, Cd, Ni, Hg and As were evaluated using the potential ecological risk index (RI) and the Geo-accumulation index (Igeo), and the sources of heavy metals were discussed. The results showed that the contents of eight heavy metals exceeded their respective background values, with Cd and Hg exceeding 3.8 times. RI and Iego data indicated that heavy metal pollution existed in the Nansi Lake to varying degrees, and heavy metal pollution such as Cd, Hg, Pb, and As needed to be taken seriously. Through element correlation and research, it was found that Nanyang Lake is the main area of domestic and industrial wastewater discharge in Jining, which can explain the spatial distribution trend of heavy metals in the north and the south.
