The article presents a study which identifies the concentrations of various liver elements of eared grebes collected at staging and wintering areas in the Salton Sea and Gulf of California. It has cited that the total liver burdens of micronutrients has to do with the increase in hyperphagic staging grebes presumably due to dietary uptake. The loss of minerals and micronutrients, and the depuration of potentially toxic metals, are presumed to be a normal component of the annual cycle of eared grebes. The increase in selenium and zinc concentrations lead to reduction in total liver burdens of eared grebes. |
