Abstrakt: The article analyzes the results of a research conducted by Research and Marketing on the waste-separation behavior of private residents, and the deciding factors involved, in the Netherlands in 1999. On the average, eight out of ten Dutch people claimed to separate domestic waste always or almost always. The main reason by far for not or not always separating waste was laziness, while a lack of information often proved to be the case for electrical goods and consumer waste. Features such as type of house and the level of urbanization affected respondents attitude to waste separation. High-rise buildings and heavy urbanization had a negative effect on the amount of waste that was recycled.
