Abstrakt: This article discusses various issues related to environmental and damage assessment, with specific reference to a training workshop. The Malta Center for Restoration hosted a six-day training school between 29 October and 3 November 2004. The training school was intended to disseminate to a varied audience the on-going European research on environment and damage assessment. Twenty-three participants were selected from fourteen European countries, Israel and the U.S. to join the course. The audience was formed by a mix of nationalities, education backgrounds and professional specialties creating a good combination of those specializing in conservation science, conservation and collection care. The course was divided between theoretical and practical sessions. The first two days were mainly dedicated to theoretical presentations of past and present European projects that are dealing with the monitoring of indoor environment and the creation of early warning systems. The practical sessions concentrated on the application of light dosimeters. The dosimeters are intended as a relative cheap tool to monitor the cumulative luminous exposure of artifacts.
