Abstrakt: This article focuses on heavy metals in the coastal environment. Urban and industrial activities in coastal areas introduce significant amounts of trace metals into the marine environment, causing permanent disturbances in coastal marine ecosystems, and leading to environmental and ecological degradation. This ecological significance is due to their toxicity and cumulative behavior which constitute a potential hazard for marine biota, and can generate risk when they enter the food chain. It is necessary to bear in mind that industrial development in these island is very scant, there being only a oil refinery (Tenerife), in each island.
