Abstrakt: The present study examines the role of environmental identity and health locus of control in determining the quality of life (QoL) of inhabitants in the oil‐producing community of Badagry, Lagos State, Nigeria. A descriptive survey research design was used to conduct this study with a sample comprising 171 residents of the Badagry oil‐producing community of Nigeria composed of 58.5% males and 48.5% females (mean age = 37.6 years, SD = 10.7 years). Data were collected using the Environmental Identity Scale, the Multidimensional Health Locus of Control Scale, and World Health Organization's QoL‐BREF. The results suggest that, among inhabitants of oil‐producing communities in Nigeria, environmental identity has a significant influence on QoL. The result also showed that health locus of control significantly influenced QoL. Finally, environmental identity and health locus of control together exerted a joint influence on QoL.
