Surgery, conservation, art: An unusual collaboration.

Abstrakt: The article focuses on the creation of an art piece by preserving skin from the body of Cuban artist Carlos Martiel in a gold medal by Cisneros Fontanals Art Foundation (CIFO) in Miami, Florida. Topics discussed include medals of Martiel's father who was in Cuba' military as an inspiration for Martiel to go for this art piece; places where human skin is preserved such as the Tattoo Museum at Amsterdam in the Netherlands, the Mütter Museum at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and the Wellcome Collection at the Science Museum in London, England; and description of the art work consisting of Martiel's skin in a gold medal, a video of the surgery to remove skin, and photographs of the tattooed skin.
