Influence of environment on the stability of Chinese traditional colorants.

Abstrakt: The article focuses on a study to observe impact of degradative environmental factors on Chinese traditional colorants. Topics discussed include applying plant-based dyes on silk fabric, treatment of high temperature, ultra violets-visible diffuse reflectance spectra (UV-Vis DRS), formaldehyde and acetic acid spray as carbonyl pollutants on silk fabric and principal component analysis (PCA) to evaluate trend of the spectra during the aging process. Other topics include adverse effect of UV irradiation than elevated temperature on fading of dye color and suggestions on preservation from display and storage environmental conditions of artworks.
