The authors discuss the implementation of the updated Environmental Protection Law (EPL) in China starting January 1, 2015. They cite China's aim to incorporate environmental awareness to socioeconomic development after sacrificing environmental quality in favor for economic development in the past. The authors reveal that China's EPL includes heightened sanctions on violations, expanded scope in environmental impact assessment (EIA), and nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) participation. |
