This article reports on two news briefs related to the field of library information services. Gaylord Brothers, a computer software firm, has announced that it will be installing the new security system for the Libraries of the University of Notre Dame, South Bend, Indiana. According to Notre Dame's head of Access Services, Sue Ditel, Gaylord security installations will replace existing security systems for Notre Dame's main library and its on-campus departmental libraries. It is further reported that Santa Fe, New Mexico-based Santa Fe Public Library became the second New Mexico public library system in a 30-day period to choose INNOPAC from Innovative Interfaces Inc. as its library automation system. Santa Fe, which has 238,000 volumes and an annual circulation of more than 540,000, had been using a proprietary OPAC and circulation system. The library serves more than 100,000 people in Santa Fe County, including 55,000 in the city of Santa Fe. It has three facilities: a main library, a branch, and a mall book-stop. Santa Fe also plans to allow remote electronic access to its OPAC, a feature that Joanne Werger, library division director, sees as a significant benefit both to residents in outlying areas as well as those in Santa Fe itself. |
