This article explores the effects on the child of exposure to violence on television. The mass media is characterized with reference to television as a mass medium. The pervasiveness of television increases the possibility of exposure to violent programs and any potential negative effects these programs may have. The concept of violence is also examined and it is postulated that violence is a constant presence in society. The observational theory, in conjunction with the cognitive neoassociation theory, lends support the hypothesis that there is a causal link between children's aggressive behavior and viewing television violence.
