Japanese learners often have a challenge determining the use of synonyms accurately, which leads to misused expressions. This research aims to discuss how to precisely analyze the differences in use and meaning of synonyms, and how to propose a different point of view as an effective way of instructing this phenomenon from an educational point of view. This thesis mainly uses “Balanced Corpus of Contemporary Written Japanese” to analyze synonymous expressions in adverbs in the Japanese language. It then further discusses the meaning and use of Japanese adverbs “Kitto” and “Kanarazu” from the points of sentence-final expression and Japanese-Chinese translation. The research results indicate that: in the past, prior studies done on synonymous adverb expression often contained misused or semantic confusions, and below are discussions regarding the different fields. 1.Regarding Sentence-Final Expression From Sentence-Final Expression we can see that “Kanarazu” is more objective. In addition, “Kanarazu” is used more frequently when it comes to “probability”, “enforcement”, and “credibility”. 2.Regarding Japanese-Chinese Translation From misuses in Japanese-Chinese translation we can see that, compared to “Kitto”, it is more challenging to use “Kanarazu” in “noun phrase”, “adjective phrase”, “negative phrase”, and “past-tense sentence”. 3.Regarding Education When Japanese learners from Taiwan learn the use of “Kitto” and “Kanarazu” solely based on the dictionary definition, they frequently face conditions such as semantic ambiguity and confusion due to the influence of their native Chinese language. Through this research, it is shown that learning and instructing synonymous expressions is a significant topic for learning Japanese in the future.
