Correlation between Spiritual Leadership of University Administrative Director and Administrative Effectiveness: Job Vigor and Well-being of Administrative Staff as Mediator

The purpose of this research is to employ the job vigor, and well-being of administrative staff as the mediators to investigate the correlation between the spiritual leadership of university administrative director and administrative effectiveness. The research established the theoretical basis, research framework, research questionnaire, and pretest according to the literature review of related articles and reports. In this study, a total of 1000 questionnaire which entitled "Research on the correlation between Spiritual Leadership of University Administrative Director and Administrative Effectiveness" was issued to the administrative staff in colleges and universities across the country, and there were 946 responded, 903 were valid in the responded questionnaire. Validate ratio is 90.3% of all issued questionnaires. Data from valid questionnaires were extracted and transformed for descriptive analysis, nevertheless, the study applied independent sample t-test, single factor analysis of variances, Pearson product difference correlations, canonical correlation and structural equation models analysis for statistical inference to analyze and examine the research hypotheses. This study obtained the following findings: 1.The administrative staffs of university perceive the mid-high level of “spiritual leadership”, “job vigor”, and “well-being” from administrative director. The “scarified and altruistic love”, “emotional competence”, ”social well-being” and “organization climate” are all at the highest level. 2.The official full-time male teaching staff and administrative director, age above 51, who hold the doctoral degree, serve at university student affairs office more than 10 years; perceive higher level of spiritual leadership from the administrative director. 3.The official full-time male teaching staff and administrative director, age between 31 and 40, who hold the doctoral degree, serve at national university 1~3 years; perceive higher level of job vigor. 4. The official full-time teaching staff and administrative director, age above 51, who hold the doctoral degree and serve at national university student affairs office; perceive higher level of administrative staff well-being. 5. The official full-time male teaching staff and administrative director, age above 51, who hold the doctoral degree, serve at national university 1~3 years; perceive higher level of administrative effectiveness. 6. There is positive correlation among perception of university administrative director spiritual leadership, administrative staff job vigor and well-being, and administrative effectiveness. 7. The structural equation model among perception of university administrative director spiritual leadership, administrative staff job vigor and well-being, and administrative effectiveness presented acceptable fit level. 8. Partial mediator effect of administrative staff work vigor and well-being on the correlation between the spiritual leadership of administrative director and administrative effectiveness. 9. The modified theoretical model can fit to different attribute and category of the university. Finally, we hope the findings and conclusions of this study can contribute valuable information and suggestions for administrative director and administrative staff in the future study of university management.
