Happiness of Middle-aged Couples: Effect of Future Expectation Consistency and Social Contact

| Popis: | 105 The purpose of this study is to find out whether middle-aged couples’ future expectation influence their own happiness. Furthermore, this study intends to figure out one’s social contact played an important role in individual’s happiness. Using the data from “High school students’ friendship networks: its formation, persistence, change and outcomes”, this study investigate 350 middle-aged couples around 36-65 years old. 48% of them have positive consistency toward future while their happiness are higher than the rest respondents, furthermore, one’s daily contact less than ten persons own the lowest happiness. The result show that social contact does exercise moderate effect on future expectation consistency to happiness, especially those who have less contact people. These middle-aged couples have inconsistent future expectation, at the same time, they also contact with more than ten persons, which might have most significant positive effect improving their happiness. This study reconfirm the importance of social contact and may serve as a suggestion for middle-aged couples on future life and the way to find out happiness. |
