This master’s thesis would apply Hakka as research method to analyze the linkage between the objects of Hakka Movement "Restore My Mother Tongue Campaign.”in 1998 and the“Hakka style” after lifting of martial law in the ROC Taiwan after 1987. For one part, I’ll illustrate the “hakkaism” remarks that appeared at the newspapers so that to clarify the reason why Hakka have to go on TV. For the other part, this thesis will clarify what is Hakka style in Taiwanese documentary? The documentaries that witness Hakka movement produced by Greenteam will be at first analysed but the primary research concern will be focus on Hakka documentaries by the team of Mr.Peng Chi-Yuan.To begin with, this thesis will applied the theory of Cultural Memory to study the “The Picture of Hakka (客家風情畫) ”to reconstruct the Hakka cultural memories and its contents during 1990s and to understand the relations between Taiwanese minority cultures and transnational cultural flow from the point of view of Hakka narrative identity. Also, the style of “cinéma vérité” and localization from the documentary《遙遠歸鄉路》(long way back home)、《三坑人三坑事》(People and Things happen in SAN-KENG)is the crutial reason why it’s highly valued and recognized as parts of Taiwanese cultural documentary. Whats’ more important, the thesis would site the theory of Sinophone to analyze how Hakka identity can travel between the ambiguity of geopolitics of Taiwan and China style Hakka from the following two documentaries:”Taiwan Hakka(台灣客家)” and “Hakka on foot(客家行腳)”. The Hakka identity is not at all totalism. It’s multi-cultural, localizes and also resistant to both Taiwan and China geopolitics. Finally, the thesis points out that the historical value of Hakka pointview and it is also the essential element for Hakka documentary makers.
