Automatic compensation system for linear positioning errors

For machine tools, positioning accuracy calibration is a necessary procedure before delivery.The calibration quality is one of the significant elements of the machine accuracy. Hence, it is an important issue about providing fast and accurate calibration mode. In the past,the compensation values of positioning error are typed into controller by manual. Therefore, this method causes the risk of personal errors. In this study, by using the self-developed laser interferometer, the positioning error of the linear stage can be measured. After the measurement, the compensation data will be transferred into the controller by the human-machine interface.By this way, the measurement time and personal error can be reduced,and the automatic positioning error compensation can be achieved. The signal processing and measurement program used in the study are not only performed with self-developed interferometer, but also can be performed with Renishaw RLU10, SIOS MI-5000 and other analog signal output of interferometer. Comparison experiments between the measurement results of self-developed interferometer system and Renishaw XL-80 system reveal that both the standard deviations are less than 1.2 μm.This result can fit the requirement of precision mechanical industry.The experimental result shows that the positioning errors of the machine tool can be reduced less than 2.8μm by the purposed compensation system and relative accuracy can be enhanced about 90%.
