The optimization of wear-resistance of micro arc oxidation ceramic coating on pure titanium by Taguchi Method

Although titanium exhibit a high specific strength, fatigue strength and corrosion resistance, the low hardness limit its mechanical applications. Wear resistance of titanium is imperative before further commercial application. In this study, the titanium metal was used as substrate. The well-adhered and homogeneous micro arc oxidation (MAO) ceramic coating on Ti surface consists of crystalline phases (anatase and rutile) and amorphous phase. The composition of aqueous electrolytic solution and electrical parameters will be accessed in terms of tribological properties. The electrolytes include sodium aluminum, silicates, borax, sodium fluoride and ethylene glycol. The experiments were carried out according to orthogonal array L18 of Taguchi method. The optimal parameters are consistent with the expected results, i.e., leading best tribological properties.
